How Can We Find the Alcohol Content in the Beer?
If you would like to calculate the percentage of alcohol content in a beer there is a particular formula you need to use which is provided below.

(FG – OG) x 131.25 = ABV%
Packed beer will always have its alcohol content on the label. Once you know the original gravity subtract it from the final gravity and multiply the total with 131.25.

Ingredients for Miller Lite Lager Beer
- American 2-row pale malt: 8 lbs (3.6 kg)
- Corn grits: 1 lb (0.45 kg)
- Rice flakes: 0.5 lb (0.23 kg)
- Saaz hops (bittering hops): 0.5 oz (14 grams)
- Cascade hops (aroma hops): 0.5 oz (14 grams)
- Lager beer yeast: 1 packet
- Water : 5 gallons (19 litres)
Instructions
-
1 Mash
- 1 Heat 3.5 gallons (13 litres) of water in a large brew kettle to around 162°F (72°C).
- 2 Add the American 2-row pale malt, corn grits, and rice flakes to a mesh grain bag or directly into the kettle.
- 3 Stir gently to ensure the grains are fully submerged.
- 4 Maintain the temperature at around 150-154°F (65-68°C) and let it steep for 60 minutes to convert starches to sugars.
-
2 Sparge
- 1 Carefully lift the grain bag or strain the liquid from the kettle, collecting it in a separate vessel.
- 2 Heat an additional 1.5 gallons (5.7 liters) of water to around 170°F (77°C).
- 3 Slowly pour the hot water over the grains to extract any remaining sugars (sparging).
- 4 Collect the resulting wort in the brew kettle.
-
3 Boil
- 1 Bring the wort to a rolling boil in the kettle.
- 2 Once boiling, add Saaz hops to the kettle and continue boiling for 45 minutes.
-
4 Hop Addition
- 1 After 45 minutes, add Cascade hops to the kettle and boil for an additional 15 minutes.
-
5 Chill
- 1 After the full 60 minutes of boiling, remove the kettle from heat.
- 2 Rapidly cool the wort to around 65°F (18°C) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
-
6 Fermentation
- 1 Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel (a glass carboy or a food-grade plastic bucket).
- 2 Pitch the lager beer yeast into the fermentation vessel.
- 3 Secure the vessel with an airlock, which enables the carbon dioxide to be released while keeping contaminants from entering.
- 4 Let the beer ferment at a cool temperature (around 50-55°F or 10-13°C) for approximately 2-3 weeks until fermentation is complete.
