- Salt: As per taste
Instructions
-
1 Direction To prepare Plain Pasta, cooked At home
- 1 Bring a substantial amount of water in a large pot to a robust boiling point. As a general rule, use about 4-6 quarts of water per pound of pasta.
- 2 Once the water is boiling, add a generous pinch of salt to the water. The salt enhances the pasta's flavour as it cooks.
- 3 Carefully add the pasta to the boiling water. Use a spoon to gently stir the pasta initially to prevent it from sticking together.
- 4 Cook the pasta according to the package instructions or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Different pasta shapes and sizes have varying cooking times, typically ranging from 8 to 12 minutes.
- 5 To determine pasta doneness, sample a piece by tasting it. It should be "al dente," meaning it's cooked through but still has a slight firmness when bitten.
- 6 Once the pasta is cooked to your preference, turn off the heat and carefully drain the pasta using a colander. Be sure to save a cup of the pasta cooking water, as it can be useful for thinning out sauces later.
- 7 Give the drained pasta a quick rinse with warm water if you're not using it immediately. This helps prevent sticking.
- 8 Your plain cooked pasta is now ready to be served as is or used as a base for your favourite pasta dishes!
