Ingredients

  • Ingredients for fresh homemade Popeye's Handcrafted Spicy or Mild Chicken Tenders
    • Chicken Tenderloins: 1 pound (450 grams), (about 8-10 pieces)
    • Buttermilk: 1 Cup
    • Flour: 1 1/2 cups
    • Paprika: 1 Tablespoon
    • Garlic Powder: 1 Tablespoon
    • Onion Powder: 1 Tablespoon
    • Cayenne Pepper: 1 Tablespoon
    • Salt: 1 Teaspoon ( or as per taste)
    • Black Pepper: 1 Teaspoon
    • Vegetable oil: as per preference.

Instructions

  • 1 Direction To prepare Popeye's Handcrafted Spicy or Mild Chicken Tenders At home
    • 1 Place the chicken tenderloins in a shallow dish and pour the buttermilk over them, ensuring they are fully coated.
    • 2 Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to overnight to tenderize and flavour the chicken.
  • 2 Prepare the Coating
    • 1 In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create the spicy coating mixture.

    • 3 One at a time, dredge each chicken tender in the spicy coating mixture, pressing the flour mixture onto the chicken to ensure a thick and even coating.
  • 3 Fry the Chicken
    • 1 Heat the Oil: In a deep, heavy-bottomed pot or a deep fryer, heat enough vegetable oil to fully submerge the chicken tenders. The oil temperature should reach around 350°F (175°C).
    • 2 Carefully place the breaded chicken tenders into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches if necessary.
    • 3 Fry the chicken tenders for about 3-4 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and cook through. Ensure that the chicken's internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • 4 Drain and Serve
    • 1 Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried chicken tenders from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
